Kabayabsan Village
We are cooperating with the sugarcane farmers
in a rural area of Negros island called Kabayabsan village.
We are based in Zamboanguita. An hour away from
Dumaguete City airport by car. Going to Kabayabsan would
take around 30 minutes.
【Basic Infoemation】
Means of Transport: Habal Habal (bike for 3-5 people)
Electricity: Almost No (they use lamp)
Waterworks: No (there is common waterplace)
House: about 50 houses mostly made by bamboo
School: elementary school (10 minutes walk )
Life in Kabayabsan Village
According to the research we conducted,
villagers make a living mainly by sugarcane farming.
They earn 15,000 pesos annually.
Some villagers who work for land owners
have a lower annual income of 3,000 pesos only.
Livestock, which is another source of income,
could generate 1,000 pesos monthly.
The lack of income is badly affecting t
heir basic needs such as food, education and nutrition.
